Andrew Cuomo, Gavin Newsom and Ron DeSantis: Three Governors in the Spotlight

Episode Summary

It has been an interesting week for some of America’s most high profile governors. Andrew Cuomo of New York finally succumbed to political pressure – including from the White House - and on Tuesday, he announced his resignation. After a fourteen-day transition period, New York’s lieutenant governor Kathy Hochul will take over, becoming the first woman in history to hold the state’s top office. In California, Governor Gavin Newsom now faces a September 14 recall, and his challengers may be gaining steam. In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis is pushing against local school districts that wish to impose mask mandates on students and teachers. That has put him in the crosshairs of the Biden administration, but may also be bolstering his presidential ambitions, at least among some Republican primary voters. Andrew Walworth is joined by Carl Cannon, RealClearPolitics Washington Bureau Chief, Susan Crabtree, RCP’s national correspondent, and Bill Whalen of the Hoover Institution on today’s edition of the RealClearPolitics Takeaway podcast.
